5. Delivery Lab

The delivery room is equipped with functional manikins, so that students can learn essential practical procedures in obstetrics (Leopold's Maneuvers, external uterine massage, manual separation and removal of placenta, use of obstetric forceps and vacuum extractor). A realistic manikin of a pregnant woman allows learning the following practical skills: palpation of the breast, determining extent of cervix opening, correction of fetal position, listening to heart sounds of the fetus, dealing with different placenta placements, applying vaginal stitches, assessing labor progression and predicting possible complications. During the class students have an opportunity to not only to work on performing certain practical skills but also to see how they can be used in real-time in modeled situations of varying difficulty.
