9. Debriefing Room

An important part of simulation training is debriefing, in other words a discussion taking place after working through a scenario, held in a dedicated debriefing room. Effective debriefing follows a specific set of procedures and rules, and uses a defined list of questions. During debriefing instructors together with students or medical interns watch and analyze video recording of team actions, focusing not only on the technique but also on different aspects related to soft skills: communication and interaction as a team, decision-making, role of the leader, tasks allocation, effective use of all team members and others. Instructors and students together ascertain successful outcomes, define key issues and come to conclusions about required changes to improve team work. Thus, debriefings are an effective tool which can significantly enhance training results.
